Ryan Dunnison - Founder / Designer

Ryan is a Game Designer and the Founder of Playful Fox Games. He's currently also managing production and doing some scripting, design and writing on Animal Bar as well as organizing the business side of the company. His expertise goes beyond game development, as he has done extensive research on game history and is a collector as well as instructor, even having exhibited at the Vancouver Museum and Space Center.

 

His industry experience includes a range of roles from design, production, analytics, QA and consulting. During his time at BANDAI NAMCO Studios Vancouver and East Side Games  he worked on more than 10 games, including: Tekken (iOS /Android), My Tamagotchi Forever, Tap My Katamari, Munchie Farm/Pot Farm: Grass Roots, and Dragon UP. Ryan graduated from the Game Art and Design program at The Art Institute of Vancouver (now LaSalle College) with a Best of Show award at his grad show, where he has also taught game history and various other game design courses. 

Work History

Bandai Namco Studios Logo

Prior to starting Playful Fox Games Ryan's last  position in the industry was as a team lead on an unreleased project at BANDAI NAMCO Studios Vancouver. He started at the studio working  on the casual games team, ultimately working on 3 titles, and also did some consulting on Tekken (Mobile).

East Side Games Logo

Ryan got his start at East Side Games doing quality assurance for a few months before successfully pitching a game and being given an opportunity to develop the prototype. From there he transitioned into a design postion where he worked and consulted on more than 6 different games.

Pot Farm  (Facebook)

Pot Farm was the studio's main source of revenue at the time Ryan worked on the team. He initially worked as the studio's first full time quality assurance analyst, before later moving into a design position.

Of note he designed a tool to improve the content pipeline to aide in the more than 600 quests that he created, balanced and released along with the associated assets (crops, decoration items, etc.) during his time on the project, leading 5 month-long themes.

Ryan graduated the Art Institute of Vancouver, which has since been re-branded LaSalle College Vancouver, with the best of show award. Once he was able to  he started teaching various game design courses including Level Design, Game History, and Mobile Game Design. 

Tap My Katamari

Ryan joined the TMK team late in development but contributed by designing and maintaining the tournament feature up until he left the company. During that time he also worked on the early version of what would become My Tamagotchi Forever.
